Singing seems so natural for some, but not for everyone. It’s not as easy as it looks, but can be approached many ways. This class includes discussion on how to make breathing as natural as possible, as well as demonstrations on placement and sound production, and the approach of singing as an extension of speech.

Good plays are very hard to write. That’s why there are so few. Study a few monologues and dialogues written by members of the class and rework them to make them more dramatically effective. Bring along paper and pencil, or your laptop.
Week V: Acting for the Camera

An introduction to acting on camera, this workshop exposes students to the basic skills expected for auditioning for the screen. The various texts to be explored are Commercials, Public Service Announcements, Industrials, Situation Comedy and Prime-Time Drama.
Series III: Comedy and Drama – the Actor’s Point of View
January 11 – February 8, 2006
Instructor: Carrie-Ellen Zappa
Explore acting from comedic and dramatic perspectives, using improvisation, theater exercises and text. Study how to use emotional responses, energy, pacing and dynamics to create the two different truthful styles of acting. Discover ways to take work and values seriously while taking yourself less seriously in order to be a better actor in both styles.
