Series I: From Page to Stage
September 14 – October 12, 2005
With a little help from their imaginations, students bring stories to life by assembling colorful characters and settings from a selection of children’s literature.
Series II: Performing with Puppets
October 19 – November 16, 2005
Use vocal variety and lively movement to perform plays with a collection of puppets on hand, then create an original puppet.
Series III: Theatre Production
January 11 – February 8, 2006
Learn about what goes on “behind the scenes.” Discover the artistic elements in set design, costuming, lighting and sound production from a variety of experts as they share their knowledge and experiences.
Series IV: Improvise!
March 1 – March 29, 2006
Practice “thinking on your feet” while working with others to invent dialogue for scenarios on the spot. Take in information about a scene, and go with the flow to continue it with spontaneity and enthusiasm, and NO rehearsal.
Series V: Scene Study
April 19 – May 17, 2006
Study the texts of selected scripts that contain well–rounded characters, involved in very interesting situations. Rehearse a scene with classmates, and work together to find the meaning behind the words.
ACTING II
13 – 15 year olds

Series I: Beginning Acting
September 13 – October 11, 2005
This class introduces the basic concepts of acting, utilizing the text The Practical Handbook for the Actor. Students study the Stanislavski method as they learn what being an actor really means in today’s world. In addition, students are exposed to some of Anne Bogart’s contemporary “Viewpoints” exercises.
Series II: Scene Study
October 18 – November 15, 2005
Utilizing the book Backwards and Forwards as a guide, learn how to find clues in the text that help actors find their objectives and create new meaning for them.
Series III: Building Character
January 10 – February 7, 2006
Explore ways to create a believable character on stage. Learn to play characters in the context of the scene in which they are found, and create original characters from a “grab bag” of assorted personalities. Identify objectives and super-objectives as you transform into another character.
Series IV: Performance Skills
February 28 – March 28, 2006
Discover what makes a performance stage worthy. Develop vocal techniques and movement patterns appropriate to the character you create. Respond to your fellow actors as you create a performance ensemble.
Series V: The Audition
April 18 – May 16, 2006
Prepare for future auditions utilizing Michael Shurtleff’s book Audition as a guide. Rehearse monologues, learn audition etiquette and how to make the most of the brief time you have to “sell yourself” to the director.
