The Human Race's Artistic Principles As theatre is a social art, a vital theatre works to affect the conscience of its community. We consider our audiences to be more than consumers. They are intelligent and informed--critical partners in this creative experience. We believe that a community is richer by the presence of artists, therefore we wish to nurture the talents of artists who are invested in the region and encourage new artists to join our community. We believe this organization has a responsibility to be actively involved in the education of our youth and the development of our community. We believe theatre is an evolving art -- both in form and content. We have a responsibility to provide a platform for our artists to explore and grow.As our name --"The Human Race"-- suggests, we present universal themes that explore the human condition and startle us all into a renewed awareness of ourselves. Because theatre artists can grow in their craft when exposed to the global community, we encourage our artists to network with outside professionals. We believe the fruits they bring back will nourish us. We also believe that bringing visiting artists into our community will provide both our theatre artists and audiences with new skills and viewpoints. This company seeks collaborations with other companies that will enhance the performance skills of artists and create unique production opportunities for our audience. We treasure both cross-disciplinary projects and affiliations with other theatre organizations. We believe this organization has a responsibility to be actively involved in the education of our youth and the development of our community. We understand that every child learns: - Behavior by imitating others, - Problem solving by creating stories, - Social responsibility through team work, and - Compassion and understanding through roleplaying Our educational programs are designed to nurture and stimulate children to become responsible, respectful, collaborative citizens. We believe that active participation in creation of art fosters an appreciation |

of the art form. As the children of today become our future audiences, we encourage our drama students to become informed, curious, adventurous audience members. We believe young students who are seriously interested in pursuing a career in theatre deserve the opportunity to train with disciplined, caring professionals in order to develop the language, technical skills and attitude that are required to compete in a professional world. We look for opportunities to support academic institutions and theatre students by providing instruction by or internships with professional artists. We provide opportunities for theatre faculty to practice the art form they teach and share their talents with the entire community.
