The Human Race Teen Conservatory program, under the direction of Katie Pees, provides the opportunity for dedicated young performers to develop into disciplined, confi dent and mature actors. The Conservatory meets each Monday from 4-6 p.m. through the school year (September – beginning of May). It uses an interdisciplinary arts approach, aided by guest artists with expertise in various aspects of theatre, and stresses collaboration and creative thinking. The Conservatory year will culminate in a performance in May 2009 that allows students to showcase their talents through drama, dance and music. Auditions for the 2008- 09 school year will be held on Monday, August 25 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center at 116 N. Jefferson Street in downtown Dayton. For the audition, please bring a current head shot and a resume of past stage experience and theatre training. Prepare two contrasting one-minute monologues or a monologue and song. The Human Race Conservatory is busy in rehearsals for JUST SO, a musical by George Stiles and Anthony Crewe (the team who created the current Broadway version of MARY POPPINS). The show is based on the stories of Rudyard Kipling and offers many opportunities for creative characterization. The artistic team includes Katie Pees, Conservatory Director; Raymonde Rougier, Musical Director; Choreography & Character Development, HR apprentices Claire Kennedy and Stephen Joshua Thompson and Carol Finley & Laurana Wong, Costume Designers.
