MICHAEL FRAYN (Playwright) is the author of Copenhagen (Tony Award, Olivier Award, Evening Standard Award), The Two of Us, Alphabetical Order (Evening Standard Award), Donkey’s Years (Olivier Award), Clouds, Balmoral, Make and Break (Evening Standard Award), Noises Off (Olivier Award, Evening Standard Award), Look Look and Here. He translated four of Chekhov’s full-length plays: The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters, The Seagull and Uncle Vanya, and adapted Chekhov’s first untitled play as Wild Honey. He has also translated four of his one-act plays: The Evils of Tobacco, Swan Song, The Bear and The Proposal. In addition, he adapted four short stories for the stage: Drama, The Alien Corn, The Sneeze and The Inspector General, which were staged collectively as The Sneeze. He has translated Tolstoy’s Fruits of Enlightenment, Yuri Trifonov’s Exchange and Anouilh’s Number One. His film credits include Clockwise, starring John Cleese, “First and Last” (Emmy Award) and Noises Off. He has also published nine novels including: Headlong, The Tin Men, The Russian Interpreter, Towards the End of the Morning, A Very Private Life, Sweet Dreams, The Trick of It, A Landing on the Sun and Now You Know, together with a volume of philosophy, Constructions. His latest play, Democracy, received a 2005 Tony Award nomination for Best Play. MARSHA HANNA (Director/Producer) has been the Artistic Director of The Human Race since 1990 and has been a resident director here since its founding in 1986. She has produced more than 50 shows for the company including many regional premieres. Her direction for the company includes Every Good Boy Deserves Favour in collaboration with The Dayton Philharmonic at the Schuster Center, as well as A Christmas Carol, I Hate Hamlet and The Odd Couple at the Victoria Theatre. Other Human Race offerings include: Crimes of the Heart, The Dazzle, Art, Three Days of Rain, Closer Than Ever, I Hate Hamlet, Three Tall Women, Cloud Nine, Fool for Love and The Elephant Man. She has guest directed for The Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis, Weathervane Playhouse, La Commedia Dinner Theatre and the Johnny Appleseed outdoor drama. She has also served as associate faculty member at Sinclair Community College, Wittenberg College and the University of Dayton, where she recently directed You Can’t Take It With You. She is excited to direct The Elephant Man at the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music next spring. Marsha is a member of The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. SCOTT J. KIMMINS (Scenic Designer) has spent the last eight years as the Technical Director for The Human Race Theatre Company where he has built close to 60 productions for the Loft Theatre as well as the Victoria Theatre. His design credits include The Wonder Bread Years, Wild Blue, How I Learned to Drive, Children of Eden, Forever Plaid and Resident Alien. Scott also designed The Caine-Mutiny Court Martial, Bent and A Man Haunted for Wright State University where he attended school for five years in the Design/Production Program. Other design credits include Infernal Machine for Sinclair College, Yellowman for Dream Keepers and Bunk Bed Brothers for Sweetwood Productions, which appeared on the Victoria Theatre stage last this year. MARY BETH McLAUGHLIN (Costume Designer) has designed numerous shows for The Human Race Theatre including: Crimes of the Heart, Was, The Odd Couple, Of Mice and Men, Over The River and Through The Woods, Death of a Salesman, Bat Boy, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Seascape, Noises Off, Wit, Angels in America. She also has worked with Wright State University designing Biloxi Blues and One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Prior to The Human Race Theatre she worked for Dayton Ballet and American Stage Company in St. Petersburg, Florida. She has also designed specialty costumes for Kids Voting and United Way. JOHN RENSEL (Lighting Designer) is the president and co-founder of The Light Fantastic. John has designed productions for Victoria Theatre Association, Dayton Playhouse, Dayton Theatre Guild, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, The Muse Machine, Fraze Pavilion and Northeast Regional Ballet Festivals. He is also the resident lighting designer for The Human Race, as well as Kettering Children’s Theatre and Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Pops. ELIZABETH GRUNENWALD (Production Stage Manager) is happy to be joining the Human Race for her first full season, her previous Human Race Credits include: The Retreat from Moscow, Green Gables and The Underpants. New York credits include: Blues for an Alabama Sky and Top Girls with NYU Tisch School for the Arts. Other Credits: Cabaret, Plaza Suite, and Peter Pan with Tri-arts at the Sharon Playhouse; The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with the Alabama Ballet; Romeo and Juliet and Elektra with the Cincinnati Opera. |
