The Human Race Theatre Company is seeking a Costume Shop Manager in Dayton, Ohio for the 2012-13 season of 7 major shows and a variety of education projects. Responsibilities include assisting designers in completion of show designs and maintenance of shop stock and equipment. Design assignments are possible and are compensated in addition to shop position. 25 - 30 hours per week for 46 weeks. Benefits package. Costume Shop Manager Description
(25 - 30 hours per week) Seasonal (46 weeks)

Maintain costume shop tools and equipment

  • Identify needed expansion.
  • Work with producer to establish major purchases schedule
  • Work with Technical Director for minor tools and supplies from general "tools and supplies" budget.

Organize and maintain costume stock

  • Manage rentals to outside organizations
    • Work with outside requests for borrowing/renting costumes
    • Set Fees, cleaning requirements, shipping arrangements
  • Accept Donations
    • Evaluate contributions for inclusion in stock
    • Arrange for pick-up or delivery of contributions
    • Establish value and issue donation letters
  • Discard stock with little value or that can be easily and cheaply replaced.

Establish and maintain relationships on behalf of Human Race with other costume shops or supply houses, local service providers and businesses.

Create and maintain measurement notebook on performers (preferably on-line).

Attend Human Race Staff Meetings.

Assist in implementation of show designs

  • Work with Costume Designer and Director to implement costume design*
    • *All regular shop hours available beyond above duties should be applied to this function
  • Bill additional hours to show budget at established hourly rate.
    • May be exchanged for comp time.
    • Alert producer to potential budget overages or projected workload problems
  • Attend production meetings and contribute to schedule.
  • Work with designer and producer to define role on specific project
    • Will designer or manager shop? Who will be supplying costume plot?
    • How is manager's time best used?
  • Work with wardrobe staff for show implementation
    • Work with producer on selecting show wardrobe staff
    • Assist in quick change planning
    • Establish cleaning schedule with wardrobe and stage manager
    • Perform major repairs not able to be completed by wardrobe
  • Arrange return of rentals and restocking after production

Work with staff and instructors to make some costumes available for special appearances, classes, etc.
