MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS
Mission Statement
The Human Race’s Musical Theatre Workshops program is designed to develop original musicals, to provide an avenue for that very important “second production” and to encourage appreciation of rarely produced musicals. Through a series of staged concerts, The Human Race not only contributes to the art form, but builds an audience for the new musical.
Submission Policy
The Human Race operates a workshop series - designed to develop new works and showcase rarely produced works. It is a two-week program - working with professional performers/directors - and culminating in, at least, 2 public performances in a staged concert format.
The Human Race also produces full musical productions for both The Loft stage (219 seat thrust) and the Victoria stage (1100 seat proscenium) - however, we tend to produce shows that 1) have already been produced, 2) we have a familiarity with the writers or 3) that we have developed at The Human Race.
We do not accept unsolicited submissions for our workshop series, but you may send an introductory letter with information about your show. You will then be contacted. We ask for a full script - a CD recording of the music (preferably studio – minimum of 6 songs from the show) - and any pertinent information about the show, it's history, previous readings or productions, and bios of the writers.
Our response time is anywhere from 6-10 months. If you want the works returned, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The best time to submit is during the summer.
At this point, we do not plan to have a full workshop until summer 2009. This may affect your interest level if you are looking for something sooner.
