THE HUMAN RACE THEATRE SEEKS YOUNG ACTORS
DAYTON, OH - April 29 - Dayton’s Human Race Theatre Company is teaming with the famed Lovewell Institute of Florida for a special Summer Stock program for teens.
The Lovewell Method is an arts education program that guides students through the process of creating an original musical theatre production. Instructors from Lovewell and The Human Race will help students use their experiences and creative abilities to produce themes, characters, music, lyrics, design and dances for the show.
Lovewell was started in Fort Lauderdale two decades ago by composer, writer, performer and educator David Spangler. Dr. Spangler, Program Administrator/Creative Director of Nova Southeastern University’s Interdisciplinary Arts Masters Program, wrote the music, and co-wrote the book and lyrics for Nefertiti, which was workshopped by The Human Race in 2006.
The Lovewell program, which stresses creative problem solving and an interdisciplinary arts approach, has been used across the U.S. and in Europe. Each session begins with a blank slate.
Three Lovewell instructors, all experienced performers and directors and including Spangler’s daughter, Marjorie, will be coming to Dayton to join Marilyn Klaben, Scott Stoney, and Katie Pees of The Human Race in working with the students.
The program, open to those 13 to 18, will run 9 to 5 weekdays from June 23 to July 11. The musical the students produce will be part of a big musical theatre weekend at The Loft Theatre July 11-13, rotating with performances of two new musical workshop productions.
Enrolment is limited and scholarships are possible. For more information and to download registration forms, see www.humanracetheatre.org or call Marilyn Klaben at 937-461-3823 ext. 3132.
