THE HUMAN RACE OFFERS TEEN ACTORS THE CHANCE TO LEARN FROM THE PROFESSIONALS WITH
MARCH MASTER CLASSES

(Dayton, OH) – February 4 – The Human Race Theatre Company announces its long-awaited Master Classes – Teen Actor-Training Workshops, to be held on Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., March 5, 12 and 19 at the Metropolitan Arts Center. Taught by three of the region’s most respected theatre professionals – Rocco Dal Vera, Judith Blazer and Richard E. Hess – these intensive one-day workshops are for serious students ages 14 – 18. Master Classes consist of three separate workshops – Shakespearean Acting, Musical Theatre and “Viewpoints” – and are designed as a jump-start to collegiate theatre programs and audition preparation.

Shakespearean Acting will be held on Saturday, March 5 and taught by Rocco Dal Vera. Mr. Dal Vera is a professor at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Co-author of the book Voice: Onstage and Off, he is also the founding editor of The Voice and Speech Review for the Voice and Speech Trainers Association. With an MFA in voice coaching and training and a BFA in Musical Theatre, Mr. Dal Vera has worked on over 500 films and television programs including L.A. Law, Hill Street Blues, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Gods Must Be Crazy, and his voice can be heard on countless commercials throughout the country.

Musical Theatre will be held on Saturday, March 12 and taught by Judith Blazer. Ms. Blazer has starred on Broadway with leading roles in Me and My Girl, Titanic and Neil Simon’s 45 Seconds from Broadway. Her acting credits include numerous performances Off-Broadway, in regional theatres and on television. She has sung at the Metropolitan Opera and at Lincoln Center. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Ms. Blazer has been on the Voice faculty of New York University and a guest teacher at Wright State University, University of California, Davis and Notre Dame de Namur University in California.

“Viewpoints” will be held on Saturday, March 19 and taught by director Richard E. Hess. This workshop focuses on the Viewpoints Theory of Actor Training developed by Anne Bogart, the world-famous artistic director of the Sarasota International Theatre Institute Company (SITI), and teaches the principles of a revolutionary, post-modern, movement-based actor training technique. Mr. Hess is the Chair of the Drama Department at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is also resident artist at The Human Race Theatre where his directing credits include: Proof, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, A Little Night Music and The Drawer Boy.

The fee for each Master Class workshop is $50. Reservations can be made by calling Education Director Marilyn Klaben at (937) 461-3823 ext. 3132. The Metropolitan Arts Center is located at 126 North Main Street in downtown Dayton.
