The Human Race’s Conservatory Program provides the opportunity for dedicated young performers to develop into disciplined, confident and mature actors. Meeting once a week through the school year, this select group of committed students works to enhance their natural abilities and expand their knowledge through training in a variety of theatrical areas. Conservatory Director, Katie Pees, together with Human Race Resident and Visiting Artists, will prepare students for an original production at the end of the year that will showcase their individual talents through drama, dance and music. This play will be presented at The Loft Theatre in May of 2006.

For the audition: Bring a current headshot and resume of past stage experiences and training. Prepare a one-minute monologue and be ready to share a true story from their life. Students may also choose to sing a short song, but must bring accompaniment on CD.

Join Katie Pees in a year long professional training program for young adults ages 13 – 18. From acting dancing, singing, audition techniques, and improvisation, students learn everything they need to know in the world of theatre. With the help of guest artists from The Human Race, DCDC, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and New York City, students receive a tremendous amount of training. At the end of the year, the students showcase their talents in a performance that displays the skills they have learned throughout the year. The showcase will be presented in The Loft Theatre in May 2007.

 

 





Katie Pees, Conservatory DirectorAbout the Conservatory Director
Katie Pees, fresh from New York, is back in her hometown of Dayton,Ohio. Katie grew up in Dayton and went to Oakwood High School. While at Oakwood Katie was a state champion in Duet Acting and a National Qualifier in Humorous Interpretation with her Speech and Debate Team. At the age of 13 she was Little Red Riding Hood in Wright State’s production of Into the Woods. Katie was a featured performer for three years with the Muse Machine. Shows with the Muse Machine include Oliver, Peter Pan and The Music Man. After graduation Katie attended Otterbein College where she recieved her BFA in Musical Theatre. Soon after graduation she headed to the Big Apple. Her first professional job was as Amelia Bedelia, a national tour for children. Since being in New York Katie as worked regionally, Off-Broadway, summer stock and national tours. In 2003, she performed her own one-woman show called Katie Pees All Over You, which was named one of the funniest titles of the year by Playbill.com. When she is not on stage she has been working at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. At the museum she has been working with young children on improvisation, mask work, character work, acting skills and basic fun in the theatre world. She has written two shows that the children have put on for their families and has helped direct both of these shows. She is proud to be back in Dayton and working for The Human Race. Some credits with the Human Race include, Moby Dick the Musical, The Spitfire Grill, for which she won a DayTony, and Was. Other credits include: Off-Broadway: Boobs The Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Crazy for You, Guys and Dolls, Children of Eden, How to Succeed, Annie, Get Your Gun, Cabaret and The Miser.
